A businessman from Curitiba who travels to São Paulo once a month on business used to stay in hotels during his stay in the city. Over time, he felt the need to invest in a compact apartment in the financial heart of the capital of São Paulo and, to make it practical, functional and, at the same time, welcoming, he commissioned a renovation project from architect Carolina Gava , with completely new decor.

“The client asked for a sophisticated and comfortable apartment, and above all, functional to overcome the limited space. Elegance was also an important aspect of the project so that he could accommodate close guests, if necessary,” says the architect.

During the renovation, the architect kept the exposed concrete slab and the coverings provided by the construction company in the bathroom and integrated the balcony (previously isolated by sliding doors) into the living room to make the living space more spacious.

According to Carolina, in general, the project sought references in the wabi-sabi philosophy to create environments with an intimate and cozy atmosphere and adopted a color palette in neutral and earthy tones to make them more sophisticated.

For the furniture, more than furniture that would suit its compact dimensions, since the apartment is only 48 m² , the architect sought to mix different options of fabrics and textures to provide a tactile experience.

The point that draws the most attention in the project is, without a doubt, the double sliding door that delimits the space of the suite , allowing it to be integrated with the rest of the space, when necessary.

“One of the biggest challenges of this project was creating a carpentry to hide the appliances . In addition to measuring every centimeter to fit everything without taking up too much space, we used straw details to ensure the necessary ventilation and thus prevent the equipment from overheating,” concludes architect Carolina Gava.
