Carrying out a renovation in the same city as the property is already complicated. Imagine planning a renovation in London while being here in Brazil. That's what happened to architect
Toninho Noronha in this 234 m² house, located in the Chelsea neighborhood. Inhabited by a couple with a baby who have been living in England for a few years, the typical British house needed a complete makeover. Overcoming issues in the region, such as the lack of natural light, was one of the professional's starting points – he traveled to London four times over the course of a year to see how the work was progressing.
Another aspect of the project was to preserve the building's original identity – London law prohibits changes to the façade. "We only painted the door red," says Toninho. (Patrick Butler Madden/CASACOR)
As London townhouses are characterized by their verticality, the areas were divided differently from the original plan: the ground floor was used for the social area and the basement was used for the service area, dining area and kitchen. The master suite and baby suite are on the first floor and the floor above was reserved for the guest area and outdoor deck.
Due to the distance of the work and the particularities of English construction legislation, another office was hired, responsible for monitoring the day-to-day work and ensuring the compatibility of the projects, also helping to find finishing solutions similar to those proposed here in Brazil.

The decor combines different styles:
London culture and the building's architecture contribute to the classic elements . But there are also contemporary touches, especially in decorative objects.

Located in the basement, the dining room is next to the stairs - here, the area under the steps was very well used with the carpentry project. Drawers store cutlery, crockery and table linens.
The cabinetry design was all detailed by the architect and executed by local suppliers. Read also: - What is interior design ? Complete guide to help you understand!
