At CASACOR Santa Catarina 2018 , Florianópolis edition, Gabriela Dutra and Vanessa Buonomo designed Lavanderia!, a space created from the desire to unite affective memory with technology and sustainability. The professionals presented to the public solutions in lighting, energy generation and water storage, with a focus on preserving the environment.
Gabriela and Vanessa sought to generate as little waste as possible, taking advantage of the existing wooden ceiling, as well as the open elements that were preserved, restored and revamped. Other types of harmful waste were avoided, and the white paint used in the space was water-based. .
The washing machine and dryer were specially selected because they have ecological operating systems that optimize the washing and drying cycles for good water and electricity savings. The electricity for the machines was generated by a photovoltaic panel installed on the roof. Rainwater could be reused through gutters connected to a filter and an external cistern, allowing it to be stored and used, including in the washing machine. The water from the washing machine could also be reused, including with the soap, through an internal cistern that has a tap and a connector for hoses or compressors, useful for washing bathrooms, yards, sidewalks.
The decor was also sustainable. The duo chose 100% biodegradable soap, and the sponges were made by recycling fishing nets. Objects from local artisans who reuse materials further enrich the concept of the space.
