An engineering couple, expecting their first child, bought this new
92 m² apartment in Botafogo (RJ), directly from the construction company. As soon as they received the keys, they commissioned a renovation project from architect
Fabiano Ravaglia , from FPR Studio and a member of
CASACOR Rio , who already indicated that the interventions should be specific, easy and quick to carry out, as they wanted to move in soon.
In the
living room , the new owners asked for a
large bookcase to accommodate many books and also to transform the balcony into a space for relaxation, reading and contact with nature.
For the
kitchen , they requested a new countertop with a cooktop, more storage space and the removal of the access door, instead of integrating it into the social area. The laundry room should also remain separate, as in the original plan, and gain a new countertop, with custom carpentry, to better use the space.
In the lavatory and
bathrooms , the idea was to maintain the original countertops from the construction company and make specific adjustments to the wall finishes, applying wallpaper to the lavatory and ceramic coverings to the shower areas.
Finally, the private area, consisting of the master suite and two more
bedrooms , would also house the baby's bedroom and an office, since both work remotely. “After the renovation, with the exception of the service bathroom, which was kept, all the rooms were renovated through specific interventions, without demolishing any masonry. The project focused on changes to the kitchen and laundry countertops, electrical adjustments, lighting, coverings and carpentry solutions,” summarizes Ravaglia.
As the couple is originally from the interior of Minas Gerais and the interior of São Paulo and met during a training course at the company where they were hired, the concept of the
project explored the emotional memories of both, using the touch and warm color of different types of wood, with their veins drawn in a soft way. For the same reason, fabrics with artisanal touches, such as wool and knitwear, were used in the cushions and blankets.
In the decoration, some pieces from the clients' previous address were used, such as the kitchen chairs, the dining room table and chairs, the balcony armchair, the sofa bed and office chair, and the bedside table in the master bedroom. All other furniture was purchased according to the project specifications, prioritizing contemporary design pieces with a clean look, with highlights including the L-shaped modular sofa without armrests, the pair of Cella coffee tables and the Balloon side table (from
Estudiobola ), the Pin side table (from
Dü Design ), and the Benta bench (from
Iludi.Design ).
The color palette features tones and materials that evoke nature to promote a sense of well-being – from clay to stone, cement, wood, leather, linen, cotton, as well as variations of green, gray and off-white. “
The terracotta tone featured on the balcony, for example, is reminiscent of the red soil of the interior of Minas Gerais ,” explains the architect.
The room has a neutral and light base, composed of gray porcelain flooring with a burnt cement appearance, a carpet made of PET bottle threads with a mix of gray and off-white, and MDF joinery with a wood finish, in the Itapuã standard, by Duratex.
