Designer
Jonathan Adler has taken on one of the most important projects of his life:
decorating and renovating his New York apartment with his partner, Simon Doonan. Adler's work is marked by a
bohemian and
artisanal style.
The couple's apartment, in Greenwich Village, has a
very playful and lively atmosphere . All the rooms are colorful with a mix of colors, prints and textures. With the pandemic, the couple had to adapt some things: one of them was to transform a bedroom into a home office, the living room into the bedroom, and the office into the dining room – a complete renovation of the young people's apartment.
Nothing is obvious in the apartment . The living room has a checkered rug and objects in shades of yellow, blue and white blend together in a simple composition.
Simon states that “
everything is there because we love it ”. In other words, despite being extravagant and full of personality, it is a décor that follows the style and way of thinking about life and art that both young people have.
They even used
sentimental elements to compose the spaces. "The Bjørn Wiinblad chalice we bought on our first trip to Denmark in 2002; a prince's head from one of my Barneys window designs; and an eccentric vintage Pirelli calendar designed by Allen Jones, a Portobello Road find," Simon said in his article. Despite their extravagance,
the couple did not compromise on comfort . "You could be forgiven for assuming that we, with our giant Lucite pills and our eccentric looks, live like hedonistic rock stars.
Au contraire . The truth is that we lead a very cozy and practical", concludes Simon.
