There is no doubt that in order to define a good interior design project, it is essential to know the lifestyle and routine of the residents, since, with this information, it is easier to visualize the needs and meet the expectations of the client. However, when you are the client and, at the same time, the project designer, creativity gains even more space! This was the storyline played by interior designer Adriana Farias when designing a new living room for her own apartment located in the Tatuapé neighborhood of São Paulo .

“The starting point was that we had a lot of people over. We had glass doors and curtains that were always open and never closed – I believe that in 9 years living here I never closed them. If there is one thing I don’t use , it’s because what will I have?", says the designer.

By opting for the total integration of the living room with the balcony — eliminating all existing divisions — the apartment gained a space of 150 m² that is divided into seven rooms, each with a purpose. "Each room in the apartment has its function, and I think that each room has to fulfill 100% of the function for which it is intended . So, I strive for that! When I think of a space like the bar , it has to fulfill my husband who makes the drinks , for example. He has to be functional", explains Adriana.

The bar has been given a new space with a wider counter — made of Kouros Quartzite — and a round table that allows friends and family to interact more with the environment.
The space dedicated to reading – the residents’ favorite – features textures, materials and a vintage touch in the furniture that guarantees the coziness and “pseudo-library” desired by the designer in the project.

Shades of black, brown, caramel and green fill the living room, which also features a touch of color through the works of art present there, such as the sculpture “The Equilibrists”, by the Italian artist Inos Corradin , and a painting that was painted by his three children when they were little.

“When I moved here, I had this wall, which is right after the entrance, and I wanted a painting, but I couldn't find what I wanted. And then I thought: 'I'm going to have a painting that my children will paint!'. It's the most valuable painting I have!” he says.

“Integrating the spaces, one of the things I wanted most and that I wouldn’t give up was having a large sideboard. It had to fit into the project somehow; it was difficult, I had to draw up some layouts ,” said Adriana.
