Having a pool at home transforms the outdoor area into a permanent space for gathering and leisure. However, to keep the projects pleasant and functional, it is essential to adopt an appropriate maintenance routine. Taking care of the water, structure, and equipment avoids waste, reduces future costs, and prolongs the lifespan of the system.

More than an aesthetic issue, the maintenance of the pool is directly related to the health of the users. Poorly treated water can cause irritations, allergies, and encourage the proliferation of microorganisms. Therefore, establishing a care schedule is the best way to keep the space always ready for use.

Physical cleaning: the first step in maintenance

Physical cleaning should be done regularly, even when the pool is not in use. Leaves, insects, and particles carried by the wind accumulate on the surface and on the bottom, compromising water quality and overloading the filtration system.

The use of a skimmer to remove floating debris, scrubbing the walls, and vacuuming the bottom helps prevent the accumulation of dirt and the formation of algae. This process reduces the need for excessive chemical products, as in natural pools, and keeps the pool at home visually inviting.

Chemical treatment of the water

Maintaining chemical balance is essential to ensure safety and clarity. Regular control of the pH—which should generally stay between 7.2 and 7.6 ppm—avoids skin and eye irritations and helps preserve finishes and equipment.

Chlorination and disinfection

Chlorine is the main disinfectant agent for the pool at home, responsible for eliminating bacteria and other microorganisms. The dosage must follow the manufacturer's instructions and be adjusted according to the pool's volume and frequency of use.

Alkalinity control

Alkalinity directly influences pH stability. When unregulated, it makes chemical adjustments to the water difficult and can cause turbidity. Weekly tests with specific kits help monitor these levels accurately.

Filtration and circulation system

The filtration system is the "heart" of the pool. It ensures that water circulates, passes through the filter, and returns clean to the reservoir. The pump's operating time should be proportional to the water volume, usually between 6 and 8 hours daily.

Additionally, it is important to carry out the backwashing of the filter periodically, as indicated by the manufacturer. This procedure removes impurities accumulated in the sand or filtering element, maintaining the efficiency of the system.

Care for finishes and edges

The maintenance also involves attention to the structure. Ceramic, vinyl, or tile finishes need to be regularly inspected to avoid infiltrations and detachments. Small damages, when ignored, can lead to more complex repairs.

The edges and surroundings of the pool at home also deserve frequent cleaning. The accumulation of dirt in these areas can be brought into the water, besides compromising safety by making the floor slippery.

When to hire a professional?

Although most of the maintenance can be done by the residents, getting specialized technical assistance periodically is recommended. Professionals evaluate the pump's operation, check for leaks, and make more complex adjustments.

This monitoring is especially important in larger pools or with automated systems. Preventive review avoids unexpected failures and ensures that the pool at home continues to operate with efficiency and safety.
