The client's request to architect
David Bastos , from the
DB Arquitetos office and
CASACOR SP 2024 team, was spot on. "She asked us for a modern apartment with personality, a cozy
home theater that could be isolated when necessary, and four suites, one of which was intended for guests, also serving as an office," he says. The
320 m² property, in the Consolação neighborhood (SP), then needed a major renovation to accommodate the resident and her two children.
Among the main changes to the property's layout, some of the masonry in the living room and
kitchen was demolished to integrate the spaces and increase the feeling of spaciousness, making circulation more fluid. In addition, all the
suites were adjusted to have the same size and the service area was resized to increase the closet and
bathroom in the master suite.
According to David, the main references and inspirations for the project came from the residents themselves. “
We combined more classic-style furniture with contemporary-style furniture to create the décor . In the living room, for example, the chest of drawers and the trio of black side tables with gold trim and the pair of armchairs upholstered in blue velvet fabric are reminiscent of the past and were strategically placed as standout elements,” explains the architect.
The
color palette of the social area was
predominantly sober , with doors, panels and wooden ceilings with
a gray finish . “The idea was to create a neutral base and a visual unity, but with personality, to highlight the furniture and works of art,” says David.
In the suites, the cabinets, wallpaper and ceiling follow a specific color scale, which reflects the preferences of each resident.
It is also worth mentioning that the entire floor of the social area was covered in Vitória marble. With
dramatic, scenic lighting and an art gallery atmosphere , the
entrance hall provides access to the private hallway and allows you to go from the main elevator to the kitchen without being noticed by anyone in the living room or dining room.
In a
home theater , folding doors allow you to isolate the room from the rest of the social area or integrate it when necessary.
To make the apartment's
intimate hall more cozy and create a visual unity,
dark wallpaper in the same tone as the lacquer on the doors and dark wooden flooring were used. Another highlight is the detail of the illuminated cove ceiling, which makes the ceiling appear to float.
Elegant and cozy, the master suite conveys peace and the client's easygoing personality. The same light-toned color palette was used for the wallpaper, curtain fabric, headboard fabric, and bed linen. In the bathroom, the marble floor, walls, and countertop are worth highlighting.
In the suite of the son who loves sports, cars and games, the atmosphere is sober and masculine. To avoid the obvious, the ceiling lining was finished in a shade of lead gray.
His daughter’s suite is one of David’s favorite spaces. “We used green as the base for the decor and covered the walls with leather to make the space more cozy. Then, we added touches of burgundy to brighten up the space, including two paintings made by the client herself,” he says.
The bathroom was covered entirely in Verde Guatemala marble.
