The couple with a teenage daughter asked
Leandro Neves – from the
CASACOR Rio de Janeiro cast – for a renovation and decoration project with
loose furniture and carpentry to avoid breakages. The
73 m² property was purchased off-plan by the family and is located in the port area of Rio de Janeiro.
“We received the apartment as is, without the ceiling, which we chose to keep, or the floor covering in the
living room . We partially renovated the
bathrooms , installing new coverings on the entire floor and shower walls, leaving the other walls painted with regular white paint to reduce the cost of the renovation. In the
bedrooms , we kept the laminate flooring provided by the construction company,” says Leandro.
In the decoration, Leandro adopted a
color palette in shades of black and gray . In the social area with integrated
kitchen , the carpentry is made of
ebonized wood, the floor is made of black porcelain (with a slightly whitish irregular texture), the walls are white (painted with regular paint) and the
upholstery alternates caramel leather and fabrics, sometimes in linen and sometimes in off-white bouclé. The
living room ceiling received a slatted concrete texture to bring more personality and warmth to the project and some mirrors were strategically positioned to make the spaces appear wider and brighter.
The furniture features Brazilian pieces alongside photographs and paintings . The tapestry on the wall is by
Carolina Kroff . The living room balcony features a
black buffet bar with a retro look , a vertical garden (which covers the entire side wall) and a round orange table, which adds a vibrant touch of color to the space.
“We installed an office on the balcony of the master suite because it is a spacious space bathed in natural light, considering the small size of the property,” explains Leandro. In the décor, the architect highlights the pair of paintings by artist
Thainan Castro , which brought a touch of more vibrant color to the sober, dominant chromatic composition.
In the
children's room , the
black and white wallpaper (which offers a modern take on the traditional polka dot pattern), the
large slatted woodwork platform with an oak finish (which supports the mattress and also has storage drawers underneath), the armchair designed by
Lattoog (upholstered in the same mustard tone as the cushions) and the rug with a geometric print, which mixes shades of antique pink, grayish blues and terracotta, stand out.
In the guest bedroom, which can also be used as the property's second office, the highlights are the ebonized wood wall panel (with TV and retractable work desk, in green lacquer), the headboard with two L-shaped blocks with rounded corners (upholstered in caramel leather, the irregular rug with geometric print in shades of green, gray and black and the Giraffe chair (by
Lina Bo Bardi ).
“Our biggest challenge in this project was, without a doubt, using dark and more sober tones in the spaces, without the final result becoming visually heavy. The mix of textures and materials vibrating in this same chromatic palette, contrasting with some white walls, upholstery in light fabrics and touches of color in some elements, contributed to creating modern and, at the same time, extremely welcoming environments”, concludes Leandro.
