After moving from Rio to São Paulo, a lawyer from Rio finally decided to buy his first apartment, measuring
145 m² , in the Jardim Paulista neighborhood. He then commissioned architect Phil Nunes, from the
NOP Arquitetura firm, to design a complete renovation project, already signaling that he intended to be involved in every step of the process, including choosing the items for the new decor.

An art fan, the new owner also advised that the project should come from his personal collection, which includes works by renowned artists such as
Julio Bittencourt, Gustavo Nazareno, Paulo von Poser, Adriana Varejão, Deborah Engels, Regina Parra, Luciana Levinton, Richard Hodara, Kiolo , among others.

As the resident is also a lover of Brazilian design and loves to dig up vintage furniture, especially originals from the 1960s and 1970s, his acquisitions would also need to be taken into account in the project, such as the
Lafer V armchair, by Percival Lafer , and the pair of
Ouro Preto armchairs, by Jorge Zalszupin – which have been given pride of place in the living room –, and the
Mole armchair, by Sergio Rodrigues , which now reigns supreme in the new closet.

Another item that the resident found and has great sentimental value is the 1951
English Kemble piano , which was restored and placed in the corner of the living room. “Our biggest challenge in this project was to create contemporary spaces that reflected the tastes and history of the client, who has an incredible cultural and artistic background. We combined all the items that were already part of his collection with new pieces by contemporary designers, such as
Jader Almeida, Zanini de Zanine and Jacqueline Terpins ,” says architect Phil.

With the renovation, the entrance hall was integrated with the living room and kitchen (designed with a cooking “peninsula”, with a counter for meals replacing the dining table), and the three original
bedrooms were reconfigured to create a suite with a walk-in closet and a guest room.

In the decoration of the
room, the architect adopted a neutral base, with white walls and ceiling and a large
off-white rug, since the proposal was to transform the space into a small art gallery, with a
gallery wall behind the sofa (with an organic design), which received works grouped according to the theme “expressions of what it is to be human”.

Another highlight is the white bench that extends along the entire wall of the main window, which also functions as a support for books and objects.
