When their children grew up and left home, the couple decided to adapt their
245 m² apartment in Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas (RJ) to the new phase. To do this, they commissioned a complete renovation by architect
Vivian Reimers , from the
CASACOR Rio cast.
“This project was very important to me because it marked the beginning of a new phase in my life, both personally and professionally. Back in Brazil after more than a decade, the biggest challenge in my professional life was starting over in a market that, until then, was unknown to me,” says Vivian.
One of the main concerns of the residents was to create a
spacious and bright environment , so the highlight of the project was the
large living room, with a stunning view of the lagoon and Corcovado in the background . With the removal of the walls, the
living room now measures
90 m² and now houses
the living room , dining room and TV room .
The social area was covered in
Roman travertine marble , which adds a touch of class and sophistication to the space. Mirrors were strategically used to reflect light and increase the feeling of spaciousness, as well as providing diverse views of the landscape – even for those with their backs to the window.
The rooms at the back of the apartment, including the
kitchen , dining room and utility area, as well as the master
suite , received very little light. To correct this issue, some walls were removed, allowing the abundant natural light that enters through the front façade to reach a greater amount of the interior space.
"It was essential to integrate the kitchen and pantry areas to maximize the entry of natural light. We widened the rear window openings as much as possible, thus allowing greater capture of natural light. This also allowed native species, such as
ferns and Adam's ribs , typical of the Atlantic Forest, to decorate and brighten the environment, acting as a
vertical garden ", explains the architect.
One of the most significant changes was the creation of a master suite at the back, giving up the original suite with a view of the lagoon. The new suite has two bathrooms for the couple and a walk-in closet. This part of the apartment has become a peaceful retreat, isolated from the noise of the city, with a large window overlooking a small interior garden. The birds of this region, of various species, provide a delightful awakening each morning.
