The inspiration for designing an environment can come from many different sources, and with the Johnny Viana Arquitetura office it was no different. In his debut at CASACOR São Paulo , the architect imprints his personality on the Badebec Restaurant , which returns to the São Paulo show in a 346 m² space that was inspired by bees . The tribute is in line with the theme of the exhibition: “ As a gift, the now ”, after all, in addition to producing honey, bees are also responsible for pollinating foods, such as fruits, vegetables and grains, ensuring food security for all humanity. “The Earth, as a living organism, is home to countless biological processes in its existence. Organized in complex communities, bees interact interdependently with the planet’s ecosystem, especially through the pollination process. Furthermore, honey – the main product of the bees’ community work – has been part of history for millennia. Therefore, it is imperative that we recognize ourselves as part of nature, so that the existence of our species is sustainable and harmonious ,” comments Johnny, who called the environment ‘ Beehive with Honey ’. To create a functional layout that prioritizes both the functionality of the restaurant and the comfort and well-being of visitors, the architect brought two large arches into the restaurant hall, inspired by the shape of bees' wings . The concern for the environment was not just aesthetic. The office dedicated itself to creating an
exclusive and olfactory experience . "We used Giant Rosemary seedlings, a plant with medicinal properties and a peculiar aroma. The honey from its flowers has a herbal flavor, therapeutic properties and is used in cooking."
For the decoration, the architect sought
sustainable solutions . "Amarrei's handcrafted work used recycled cotton thread, which comes from textile waste. This waste is separated by color, chopped and shredded, resulting in cotton strands that are woven to create the threads," he says. The bee sculptures were made with leftover steel sheets by Rapha Preto, demonstrating the commitment to sustainability. "We chose to cover the sofa with ecological leather, a sustainable and durable alternative to natural leather."
