Inspire: (Dis)continuous space is a room that interacts with breathing

Sometimes, it is only through absence that we perceive presence. Eduardo Franco Correia explores the meanings of voids in Espaço (dis)contínuo , a space at Janelas CASACOR, Ribeirão Preto edition . The entire project was conceived to stimulate reflection on the primordial.

The space has no physical walls, just a luminous outline delimiting its existence on dry leaves that spread beyond the furnished area. Upon entering, the visitor soon realizes that the room is interactive and changes according to their breathing. With each inhalation and exhalation, the light that defines the container oscillates, as do the sounds and the projection on the panel.

“The idea is to draw attention to this elementary function, which is threatened by circumstances resulting from human action,” explains the professional. In times of a pandemic of such a perverse disease, the appreciation of air takes on profound meanings. Being able to breathe in a world suffocated by epidemics, imminent climate change, violence and prejudice is indeed a privilege that must be valued.
