Opened on August 15, 1922, the
Hotel Glória was born grand. The first five-star hotel in Brazil was built to commemorate the centenary of Brazil's Independence. The creator of the Glória was the French architect
Joseph Gire , who was also responsible for the
Copacabana Palace .
The inspiration came from the European resorts of the time, bringing elements present in the great hotels of the French Riviera and providing diverse experiences of leisure and comfort. With views of
Flamengo Park ,
Sugarloaf Mountain and
Guanabara Bay , the Hotel Glória was the stage for hosting presidents, international authorities, artists and celebrities who filled the environment with glamour and sophistication.
Today, the building is undergoing a
retrofit process to create a luxury residential complex in Rio de Janeiro. Scheduled for completion in 2026, the project will have
266 apartments with up to four suites and three parking spaces, as well as four stores on the ground floor.
The Opportunity Imobiliário and SIG Engenharia project was designed by Rio de Janeiro-based firms
Cité Arquitetura and
Afonso Kuenerz Arquitetura . The interiors were designed by
Patrícia Anastassiadis , the landscaping was by
Burle Marx and the
fitness areas were designed by Bodytech.
Suppliers include luxury high-tech carpentry from Ornare, metals from Deca and coverings from Portobello.
