The
sunflower is a plant full of life and color, known for its large
yellow flower that always seems to be watching the sun, a behavior called
heliotropism. It belongs to the family
Asteraceae and, despite being strongly associated with Brazil, the most common sunflower (
Helianthus annuus) originally came from North America. Beyond all this beauty, the sunflower carries a special meaning:
it symbolizes joy, positivity, loyalty, and strength, always seeking the light even in the darkest moments.

Here, we also have some species that resemble sunflowers, such as Tithonia diversifolia, better known as Mexican sunflower or margaridão. Despite the resemblance, it does not belong to the genus Helianthus.

How to cultivate?
The cultivation of sunflowers requires some basic conditions:
well-drained soil, direct sunlight for at least six hours a day, and regular watering, avoiding waterlogging. As a
plant that needs a lot of light, the sunflower
adapts better to outdoor areas. However, smaller varieties can be grown indoors, as long as there is abundant light and ventilation. In indoor spaces, it is essential to place them near windows or use artificial light to ensure blooming.

For a more diverse garden, sunflowers combine perfectly with
lavenders, zinnias, and aromatic herbs, which have similar growing requirements and create a beautiful contrast with their different colors and sizes. Planting sunflowers brings benefits such as the
attraction of essential pollinators for the projects, such as bees and butterflies. Additionally, sunflowers
favor the health of the soil, as their roots help with drainage, and their presence can act as a
natural barrier against pests. With their warm and vibrant colors, they are an invitation to well-being and positivity. --
