Gabriel Fernandes - Casa Veredas Simonetto. This 120 m² house, which pays homage to country life, aims to evoke memories of rural imagery. The entrance hall is connected to the act of sewing through the installation work A Costura do Erro, by Adrianna Eu; the stove is wood-burning; and an oratory at the exit reminds us of the importance of giving thanks. A technical challenge of the project, the shelf that goes all the way up to the ceiling houses blocks modeled by women assisted by the Maria do Barro Institute in Brasília. Each brick contained in the niches represents the way its author sees the house. Behind the sofa, another gem: the panel assembled with an old ceramic floor by Francisco Brennand.

It is impossible to visit the Casa Veredas Simonetto environment, created by Gabriel Fernandes for CA SACOR São Paulo 2024 , and not be moved. Every detail, ornament, color and material refers to life in the countryside , where the architect spent much of his childhood with his grandmother. The space reveals, in a touching way, the roots of the Brazilian people , providing a journey through time through the memories and traditions that shaped the country culture. “The Brazilian house that we have as a reference is a legacy of the Bandeirante period and its overlaps, until we arrive at the country house , which speaks a lot about the history of my family and I decided to pay homage to it”, says Gabriel.

Upon entering Casa Veredas, visitors are immediately transported to the simplicity and authenticity of country life. The integration of the kitchens – one contemporary and the other rustic, with a wood-burning stove and clay filter – brings to light the contrast between the modern and the traditional, symbolizing the evolution of the Brazilian home without losing its essence. Each piece – from the 2,500 handmade bricks made by the Maria do Barro community to the living room panel made with 608 reused Brennand ceramics – was carefully chosen to tell a story, celebrating ancestry and innovation.

“Each brick is unique, no two are the same, and it even features a relief-shaped house design. The niches represent hollow, gridded structures filled with clay, from the old wattle-and-daub construction technique, also known as taipa de mão. This was the way I found to exalt and pay homage to the ancestral Brazilian country house, within a modern aesthetic language ,” explains Gabriel.

The Chica armchairs by Zanine Caldas and the brutalist armchair in rustic leather are not just pieces of furniture, but elements that recall lazy afternoons on the porch, surrounded by nature and family affection. The strategically positioned jabuticaba tree serves as a living link between the past and the present , evoking the feeling of being in a cozy backyard , even within a modernist building.
