The couple in their 70s already knew this condominium in
Barra da Tijuca (RJ) until the opportunity arose to buy a
200 m² apartment , in the building facing the beach, with a large
balcony in the living room, where they dreamed of relaxing. and enjoy retired life. As soon as they received the keys, the new owners commissioned a project from architect
Rafael Ramos . “They asked for a complete renovation to update the property, which was very old, as the condominium was built between the 1970s and 1980s,” he says.

With the renovation, the walls between the dining
room and the kitchen were demolished and replaced with L-shaped sliding doors, allowing the spaces to be integrated or isolated, according to need. From there, the architect designed
a cooking island with the cooktop facing the sea , leaving the dining room, TV room and balcony in the field of vision of anyone entering through
the kitchen . “
In addition to promoting the integration of spaces, the new layout significantly lengthened and expanded the social area of the apartment ,” he says.

In the intimate area, the
bedroom closest to the living room was transformed into an office – which can also be used as a guest bedroom – and gained sliding doors that allow it to be integrated into the dining room. Finally, a small space that previously served as a storage room was transformed into a bathroom and attached to one of the bedrooms, thus creating the suite for the couple's daughter, who lives in Europe and usually spends holidays with her family.

According to Rafael, overall, the project sought to create a
contemporary and visually light apartment , with a chromatic palette and materials connected to the external landscape so as not to take away from the front view of the sea. In the social area, the architect adopted a neutral and clear base and punctuated with colors in the decorations, cushions and some works of art. The floor was covered with porcelain tiles in a light gray tone, while the joinery, designed by the office, was finished in natural freijó.

“Our biggest challenge in this project was meeting the construction deadline of just 7 months, considering that the renovation was complete, intervening in every room, and the apartment is a generous 200 m². Fortunately, everything worked out”, concludes architect Rafael Ramos.
