With carte blanche from the clients, architects
Carolina Escada and Patricia Landau , from the
Escala Arquitetura office and
CASACOR Rio de Janeiro team, created a casual and fun project, mixing
contemporary, industrial and retro styles in this
180 m² apartment in Alto Leblon (RJ).

“Only the
small brick that was on the main wall of the living room was kept and replicated on the walls of the son’s
bedroom . The rest is new,” says Patricia Landau. “We also applied
concrete texture to some beams and pillars that were already visible,” adds Carolina. The neutral-toned base is punctuated with color in strategic objects.

The
total integration of the social areas allows the
kitchen and living room to be integrated or isolated using sliding doors. “When we open all the frames, the balcony, living room and kitchen are all in the same field of vision, within a continuous and integrated space”, highlights Patricia.
The social area displays a bold and harmonious combination of different materials and textures, such as
terracotta-toned brick on the main wall, wood on the floor, furniture and carpentry, natural straw in some details of the furniture, black metalwork with wired glass on the sliding doors and the concrete texture applied to the exposed beams and pillars. In the kitchen, large-format light gray porcelain tiles were used on the floor, off-white quartz on the countertops, olive green lacquer on the cabinets, retro white tiles on the front, black paint on the walls and natural wood planks on the “peninsula” , which delimits the pantry area integrated into the space and also serves as a support for preparing meals.

Among the designer furniture pieces in the living room, it is worth highlighting some Brazilian creations, such as the Pitu chaise longue with stool (by
Aristeu Pires ), the pair of Mínima coffee tables (by the duo
Luciana Martins and Gerson Oliveira ) and the pair of Morere armchairs with lattice backs (by
Gracia Mendes ). Also noteworthy are the Thonet-style dining chairs, with a black-stained bentwood frame and natural straw seat.
