The family had been living in this
90 m² apartment in Botafogo for 11 years, but had only done one renovation project, when they moved in, on their own. When they decided to modernize the property, they called in architect
João Panaggio , from the Panaggio Arquitetura office and
CASACOR Rio de Janeiro , who also had the task of adapting the project for the couple's 9-year-old son.
“They wanted
cabinets throughout the house to increase storage space, especially for clothes. They also asked for a
walk-in closet in the master suite and a
new room for their son ,” says Panaggio.
According to the architect, the project sought to combine coziness and spaciousness, and through the new decor and color palette, it needed to connect as much as possible with the lush landscape seen from the living room and
bedroom windows.
“One of the apartment’s strong points is the view of Sugarloaf Mountain and Botafogo Beach, framed by both the living room and two bedroom windows . I even changed the position of one of the bedrooms to accommodate the view,” he reveals.
Overall, the decor follows a contemporary style and has a neutral, clear and timeless base, with natural freijó woodwork in the living room and lighter tones in the bedrooms. The
colors appear occasionally in some works of art, in the carpet and in the cushions.
Among the pieces that were purchased in the living room, the architect highlights the
Saarinen dining table with a marble top (the same material used in the niche of the bookcase that functions as a sideboard) and the Dera chairs (from Lider Interiores).
Another highlight is the modular carpentry bookcase that occupies the entire length of the main wall and was designed by the architect himself to take on multiple functions: sideboard, china cabinet, TV stand and cabinets. In the
couple's bedroom , a
home office was installed, which gained light-toned carpentry and décor in colors and materials that convey calm and tranquility. In terms of designer furniture, the highlight here is the
Iaiá chair, by designer Gustavo Bittencourt .
“Clients told me that they became so attached to their new room that, since then, hotel rooms have become boring, and that their level of demand in terms of accommodation has increased considerably. They have become spoiled,” jokes Panaggio.
The
son's room has a neutral base, timeless carpentry (designed to be easily modified over the years) and was designed for the boy to receive friends and study.
