The story of this
240 m² apartment in Botafogo (RJ) is as interesting as the change it underwent: a few years ago, the residents got married and bought an apartment. They loved living there, but the home became too small with the arrival of their first child. “They moved, but they didn’t get rid of the apartment because they really liked the building, the location and the property itself. Years later, the opportunity arose to buy the unit next door and they didn’t think twice about joining the two and creating a double apartment,” explains architect Fernanda Medeiros, who designed the project and was part of
CASACOR Rio .
For the family – which now has two teenage children – the architect changed the
layout quite a bit, but was careful to maintain the original proportions and positions of the
kitchens and
bathrooms . Using practical and functional materials, such as
vinyl that imitates light wood and porcelain tiles in light cement tones , the project prioritizes practicality without sacrificing style.
In the
social area , structural elements allowed the division into three distinct spaces:
living room, dining room and TV room . “I sought to integrate these spaces through the same carpentry language, with American oak that I even used in the
bedrooms and bathrooms. The furniture follows the contemporary and youthful line of the project”, says Fernanda.
The
gourmet kitchen connects to the TV room and serves as a social and intimate space for the whole family. The space has
a wine cellar, a dining room and even a barbecue , often used on game days when residents have friends over.
The other kitchen is used for the family's daily routine and has a countertop that allows them to eat while watching TV. Both kitchens have the same finish on the woodwork. For the
color palette ,
shades of blue, green and gray were chosen and are present in the furniture, paintings and objects. Natural elements such as
straw, ceramics and plants , as well as objects with a Rio de Janeiro feel, were also used to create the feel of a typical Rio home.
In the master
suite ,
wood and a palette of light green and sand tones were used. “We needed to make the most of the space because the room was very compact. The closet hugs the bed in a light, practical and cozy way,” says the architect.
In the
daughter's room , the priority was to meet the needs of a space for a
study bench and another for her
dressing table , preserving a romantic atmosphere, created with the use of nude pink tones and a soft color palette.
