A business couple living in Salvador (BA) were looking for their own apartment in São Paulo, as they visit the city quite frequently, both for work and leisure. As soon as they found this new
174 m² property in the Jardim Paulista neighborhood, architect
David Bastos – who is part of the
CASACOR SP 2024 team – was called in to design a project to adapt the floor plan to the new owners' needs and to decorate all the spaces.
“As the clients have a more
classic and traditional profile, they requested neutral tones in the decoration. In addition, they asked for a large
room to receive the family and an office where they could work remotely,” he says.
Among the main changes to the property's layout, as the apartment is not the clients' main residence and they love exploring the city's restaurants,
the kitchen was reduced to serve only as a support area , thus opening up space to create a
charming office, which can also be used as a guest room , as it has a private bathroom, sofa bed and TV.
According to the architect, the main concept of the project was based on the integration of the spaces in the social sector, which united the living room, dining room and bar, leaving the kitchen and office separated from this large living area by folding doors so that they can be integrated into the living room, when necessary.
The decor is all new, with the exception of some ornaments and works of art (
all the silkscreens are by the artist Carybé ), which were already part of the clients' collection. "The neutral tones of beige and gray in the furniture and wallpaper that cover the entire apartment bring visual unity to the whole, while the walnut woodwork, the cumaru flooring and the light linen curtains make the spaces more cozy and welcoming," says David.
“Within this context of neutrality,
the armchair with pouf upholstered in green leather became a focal point in the living room with TV ,” he points out. Since the clients like comfort and timeless pieces, the sofa, pouf, armchair and chairs were made to order and upholstered with fabrics made from natural materials. The dining table was designed by the firm and made of stone.
“Our biggest challenge in this project was to design a compact and, at the same time, functional kitchen. In addition to the space having top-of-the-line appliances, we also installed a laundry room, which is hidden behind retractable doors,” concludes architect David Bastos.
