A house is made up of many details : small objects, affectionate memories, memories of trips and past stories. So imagine a
CASACOR with
45 environments created by
62 professionals and their crazy ideas? We have listed some curiosities that could even go unnoticed, but deserve a closer look from anyone visiting this
31st edition of CASACOR Rio , which runs until June 26th.
1. The original basement
Adega, por Ana Cano Milman e Claudia Infante. (André Nazareth/CASACOR)
While working on the old pantry of the
Brando Barbosa Residence to set up the
Casa Wine Cellar there,
Ano Cano and
Claudia Infante discovered, on the floor below, the
mansion's original basement . The space was restored and opened to visitors and houses the wines for sale from Porto di Vino; but it still keeps, on its walls, the marks of time — and wines — from the golden age when the house hosted parties for Rio's high society.
2. The Flag
Ricardo Portilho - Jardim do Chafariz.
The sculpture of
Raul Mourão that occupies
Jardim do Chafariz , by landscaper
Ricardo Portilho , was created exclusively for CASACOR Rio and finished
on site . Attraction of the space, the work enchants with its movement and location facing the main facade of the mansion and Christ the Redeemer. Made of iron, the piece measures 4mx4m and weighs
700 kilos : 15 men worked together to put it upright in the garden!
3. Rising
Another surprise discovered during the works was a
small spring on the land. Next to
Pavilion 22 , by
Mario Costa Santos , the space gained the keen eye of landscaper
Ana Veras , who created a path of lilies to accompany the water hole.
4. The Empress's bathtub
Carved from a single piece of marble, the bathtub, which, according to legend, belonged to
Empress Teresa Cristina , was located in the former Bathroom of the house's master suite. The space was transformed, in this edition, into the
Brando Barbosa Meeting Room and Gallery , where
Ric Melo and
Rodrigo Passos create a beautiful mix of contemporary design with the original architecture of the Residence. The bathtub, for example, became a support for a
collection of opalines . While the old closet was transformed into
a showcase to display other original pieces from the house's collection.
5. The chandelier
In baccarat crystal, the chandelier in the
Sala DA Música , by
Tiago Freire , is one of the
most valuable original pieces in the house. Maintained in the environment, it gained even more prominence with the
muxarabi installed on the ceiling by the architect. Detail: although it works perfectly, the piece is always off, as the architect gave the space other lighting solutions.
6. Plaid curtains
In the center of the Expo space, by sisters
Cristiana and
Mariana Mascarenhas , the work of Belgian
John Van Borsel draws attention: a gigantic chessboard whose pieces are made from old curtain tips.
7. Playmobil Tetris
The Expo space impresses with the
variety of styles of the works of art it houses. And, although clearly visible,
Herbert Sobral 's portals hide a surprise. From a distance, they look like Portuguese tiles that appear in so many areas of the house. But you just need to get close to see that the drawings are made with several little
Playmobil figures that seem to fall and fit together like a big Tetris game.
8. Art Mathematics
Another work that hides a little secret can be seen in
Pavilhão 22 , by
Mario Costa Santos . The lines on
Paulo Climachauska 's Subtractions screen are, in fact, small numbers that make up a large subtraction count – hence the name.
CASACOR Rio opens from Tuesday to Sunday until
June 26th at Residência Brando Barbosa, in Jardim Botânico. There are
45 environments decorated by
43 teams of professionals including architects, interior designers and landscapers. Just like last year, the exhibition is hybrid, with an in-person version and a digital version, with
3D tours available on the website!
