The desire to be in touch with nature and the primitive has become a real trend in decoration. Especially during the pandemic, when many people were in social isolation, styles that bring nature and offer more comfort were highly valued. It was in this context that
cottagecore gained strength.

The aesthetic brings elements of
country life to any type of home, whether it's a country house or an apartment in the center of a metropolis. The key is to bring in items and colors that have a more rustic and simple atmosphere, and add this to the décor. Cottagecore has its meaning related to
simplicity, agriculture, nature and domesticity . Bringing these elements to compose an environment, however, may not be such a simple task, after all, they are often rustic and cave-like elements, and for those who do not follow the style, it can be difficult to combine them. You can add some elements (such as natural fibers,
plants ,
neutral palettes ) or even create a complete décor following the style. The options are endless!
What is cottagecore?
Cottagecore is a new style of decoration based on a simple and cozy aesthetic. The goal is to bring together more rustic elements that create a more natural setting, like a real
country house . The trend began to spread on social media platforms such as Tumblr, Facebook and TikTok, and gained even more traction after social isolation. This is because the search for more welcoming spaces that connect residents with nature has become almost a necessity. You know that desire to travel to a place surrounded by nature, in a simple and cozy cabin? Well then! The idea with cottagecore is to bring these elements into your home. Below, we have separated the main characteristics to create this look.
Wood, wood and wood!
Wood is always an incredible ally when it comes to decorating. It is extremely versatile and looks great in different styles, and in the case of cottagecore, this is no different. Exploring different shades and textures of wood in the environment guarantees a
harmonious mix that brings the simplicity of the countryside into the home . The idea is to use it without fear, whether on the floor, walls, furniture and why not the ceiling too?

The use of
natural fibers is a trend in decoration , and can help create a simpler space that brings back the philosophy of the primitive. Straw is a classic example that has been conquering several environments, and can be incorporated into chairs, lamps and other furniture. The good news is that even if you don't want to bring the style to your home, using this covering is super versatile and combines well with many other elements.
Light fabrics
(Denilson Machado/CASACOR)
Fabrics help create
different layers of textures in a space , and when we talk about cottagecore, the use of lighter fabrics that bring a more intimate and peaceful atmosphere is fundamental. In the space designed by Clarissa Camanho for
CASACOR Mato Grosso do Sul this year, we can see fabrics in several places: from the bed linens to the use on the ceiling to bring softer lighting and a different and inviting element.

Using
plants in your decor helps create a more natural and vibrant environment. Choosing green and abundant species helps to make the space stand out and creates a simple and unique atmosphere, as well as giving the space a lot of personality. In addition to the aesthetic benefits, the use of plants also helps with circulation, air quality and wards off negative energy.
