Hygge concept: the home as a temple of well-being

Being at home, more than ever, has become synonymous with quality of life. Home is where we protect ourselves from external stimuli and find refuge in everything that welcomes us and brings good memories. In Denmark, the term hygge (pronounced “riuga”) represents this therapeutic relationship of protection and comfort between people and what makes them feel good. Without an exact translation, the word has been incorporated into the world of decoration as a key to well-being. In this concept, the home should be good for the soul of the resident, combining a variety of their favorite objects and being their private temple of happiness. . Different projects at CASACOR 2019 convey the range of meanings involved in the hygge concept, but two in particular stand out: the Hygge Studio , by designer Melina Romano for CASACOR São Paulo , and the Hygge Room , by the HB Interiores office for the show in Rio. The secret may lie in simple things, such as books, paintings and photographs with high sentimental value, family heirlooms or travel souvenirs, objects that in themselves already carry a story and activate emotional memories. Comfort also lies in the awakening of sensations, that play with the senses, whether through textures with a sensitive touch, which stimulate touch, or vases with spices, herbs and flowers whose scent attracts the sense of smell.
