American kitchens have become a timeless trend that adapts very well to the needs of homes and apartments – whether small or large. More than providing
practicality , this style of kitchen is capable of creating a true
living center to welcome friends and family. With a concept that values
integration and
functionality , these kitchens have become the heart of the home, where not only food is prepared, but also
special moments are shared .
What are American kitchens?

American kitchens were born, as the name suggests, in the
United States , in the mid-1950s, in a social context of rising middle class and appreciation of family life. The
open-plan concept, which
integrates the kitchen with the living room or dining room, aimed to enhance the spaces and facilitate
interaction between residents , allowing cooking and receiving guests to take place in the same space.
The arrival of this style of kitchen in Brazil was a response to the trend of increasingly smaller and more integrated homes in large cities. American kitchens offer a harmonious
connection with other spaces, while at the same time providing a certain amount
of privacy for the kitchen .
The importance of the bench
When it comes to open-plan kitchens, the
countertop is a key element that will take the place previously occupied by walls. The countertop draws a dividing line between the kitchen and other spaces, and can be considered both part of the kitchen and the dining room – especially for those who choose to
attach a table to the island . Furthermore, in many cases, it has become common for the
counter itself to replace the dining table – especially when the property’s square footage is very small.
Advantages of the countertop in the American kitchen :
- Practicality in preparing meals;
- Integration with other environments;
- Greater social interaction between residents;
- Attractive aesthetics;
- It can serve as a multifunctional piece of furniture (it is common to use smart carpentry to make the most of the island space and transform it into a closet).

Modern and practical. These are the two characteristics that should guide the design of your American-style kitchen. To achieve this, you need to study the
layout of the kitchen to think carefully about the dimensions of the island, the countertop or the cabinets. In the following gallery, check out
