A family consisting of a couple in their 40s (he, a businessman; she, a lawyer), with a four-year-old daughter, lived in Leblon (in the south zone of Rio de Janeiro) in a small apartment when they decided to look for a good property larger, in the same neighborhood, for two reasons: first, because they had plans to expand their family; second, because the wife, who is a lawyer, is in a career transition phase and decided to work from home as a holistic therapist.

As soon as they found this 800 m² triplex penthouse, the new owners commissioned their friend and architect Bianca da Hora , from the Da Hora Arquitetura office, to carry out a complete renovation project, with new decor. “They asked to concentrate the three suites on the first floor and the office, which would be the fourth suite, on the second floor. They also asked for a gourmet space and a swimming pool on the second floor where they could comfortably receive their friends. Finally, they asked to transform the third floor in a spa where the client could meditate and practice mindfulness , a type of state of full attention, with the ability to focus 100% on the current activity, without any distractions”, says Bianca.

According to the architect, this is a very different project. The décor on the first floor has a more classic and contemporary feel, punctuated by designer Brazilian furniture (with special emphasis on the creations of Jader Almeida and Sergio Rodrigues), resulting in warmer environments. and welcoming, with a predominance of natural wood, white and neutral colors .

For Bianca, the staircase is undoubtedly the star of the house : covered in Calacatta marble with a transparent glass railing, it gives the whole thing a visual lightness. A climate-controlled wine cellar with internal lighting was designed underneath it, which continues the panel. of freijó from the shelf in the TV room on the lower floor.

In the project, the architect also highlights the “geometric” partition made of openwork carpentry at the entrance to the apartment; the handmade painting on the wall of the children's bedroom (signed by the studio A Casinha) decorated in pastel tones and all the rooms bathed in plenty of natural light.

In the selection of works of art, highlights include the large photograph by Flávia Junqueira on the wall leading to the staircase, the diptych by artist Fernanda Naman , above the sofa in the living room, next to the apartment's entrance hall; and the photograph by Maritza Caneca, next to the TV in the living room on the second floor.

The gourmet space with an island fully integrated into the TV room on the second floor makes the most of the sea view.
