As soon as he bought this 360 m² duplex penthouse with views of Rio de Janeiro's postcards, a lawyer with two young children commissioned architects
Camila Simbalista and Paula Wetzel , from
Studio 021 Arquitetura (and
CASACOR Rio cast), to carry out a complete renovation project, with completely new decor in all the rooms.

“The client’s main request was to separate the social area from the bedrooms, as he loves to host dinners and parties at home and didn’t want to disturb his children or guests.
Another request was a generous space to store his generous wine collection ,” says Camila.

The layout of the property was completely changed on both floors. Previously, the lower floor had
a kitchen , service area, living and dining rooms and two
bedrooms , while the upper floor had another living room, master suite and outdoor area. With the renovation, the three suites and the guest room were concentrated on the lower floor, which also gained a private room with TV and a support pantry, a social bathroom and a linen closet.

The second floor now houses the entire social area, kitchen with pantry, service area and outbuildings, as well as the outdoor area with gourmet space and swimming pool.

In the living room, it is worth highlighting the Renata armchair (by
Sergio Rodrigues ) and the pair of Samba armchairs (by
Maurício Bonfim ), while, in the dining room, the highlights are the Ale chairs (by
Studio Doimo ), the Lineare dining table (by
Studio Sette7 ) and the LBBA pendant lamp (by
Lina Bo Bardi ).

In the intimate living room with TV, the Platô sofa (by
Jaime Bernardo ), the Cuiabá armchair (by
Sergio Rodrigues ) and the Liv Office chair (by
Luan del Salvio ) steal the show. In the kitchen, the Pedro chairs are by designer
Fernando Mendes .
To create a visual unity on the roof, the architects covered all the
joinery with natural peroba do campo veneer and used the same sand-toned
porcelain flooring with a textured surface on both floors. In the social area,
black was added to give the space a subtly masculine feel – the color is present, for example, in the structure of the
floor-to-ceiling wine cellar, in the pendant light, in the base of the dining table and armchairs, in the structure of the chairs and in the metalwork that integrates the joinery shelving.

As the client also loves color, the architects used
shades of green and blue in the upholstery of the sofas and some armchairs, bed linen, kitchen cabinets, rugs, cushions, paintings and ornaments. (Fotos: Juliano Colodeti, do MCA Estúdio / Produção visual: Andrea Falchi/CASACOR)
“The white walls of the children’s bedrooms also feature paintings by artist
Linda Valente , in shades of gray: one depicts Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas and the other, the Ipanema waterfront,” says Paula. The rest of the decor is dominated by light and neutral tones.

A highlight of the penthouse is, without a doubt, the open terrace on the top floor, from where you can see four of Rio's landmarks:
Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas, Pedra da Gávea, Morro Dois Irmãos and Christ the Redeemer . Protected by a retractable awning that can be completely retracted, this space has a swimming pool and gourmet space, equipped with an electric barbecue and pizza oven, beer cooler and minibar.

“When we open the sliding doors that separate the terrace from the living room, we have the sensation of a unique and larger space, bringing the postcard landscape into the apartment”, concludes Camila.
