CASACOR SP: Design, art and practicality make up the +55 Studio

André Bacalov, Kika Mattos and Marcela Penteado, from TRiART Arquitetura, designed Estúdio +55 , a 38 m2 space dedicated to design and contemporary Brazilian art at CASACOR São Paulo 2017. Modern, functional and cozy, the small loft was designed for a resident who prioritizes practicality. The trio focused on making the most of the space by centralizing activities on the sofa – also named +55, the piece of furniture is one of the items designed by the trio. Modular, it has seats facing the four sides of the room, also functioning as a bench for the dining table. The sofa also has a niche covered in brass that can be used as a magazine rack or organizer for controls. Continuing with this concept of multifunctional furniture, the architects also designed a piece of furniture for the space that serves as a support for the sofa, a bar for the dining area or, in the suite, delimits the space.

Among the shades of gray and black that fill the entire space, the green box that houses the bed, closet and bathroom stands out . Combined with the light floor, the color provides balance, balancing the color palette of the space. The greenish tones also appear on the bed – another piece of furniture designed by the trio of architects.

The signed items, such as the Girafa embroidery by Lina Bo Bardi, complement the style by joining recent creations. The Sela rocking chair by Bruno Araújo from São Paulo occupies one corner of the Studio, while the other is home to a Smart Kit station, a mobile kitchen by Mekal. A highlight is the work Carrossel by artist Marcelo Di Benedetto from Paraná, loaned by Galeria Nicoli – the work tells stories in concrete, wood and iron and blends into the painted surface with the same texture, appearing to be part of the walls of the Jockey.

The +55 Studio also has a 28 m² balcony, which serves as an extension of the living area. A structure that occupies the entire length of the exterior fulfills several functions: different elevations transform it from a bench to a flowerbed, chaise, fireplace and cooler for drinks. The landscaping designed by Clariça Lima completes the setting.
