Imagine a CASACOR surrounded by 12,000 m² of Atlantic Forest. Now imagine a 19th century mansion, with some modern interventions in the original architecture. This is the headquarters chosen to host the 30th edition of CASACOR Rio de Janeiro 2021. In an iconic house eclectic style in the Botanical Garden - built in 1860 and renovated in the 1950s, which today houses the Brando Barbosa Institute - the Rio edition will celebrate its 30 years of existence.
Around 35 teams of architects, interior designers and landscapers were invited to create a commemorative edition that will take place for the first time in the summer. Professionals who helped make the history of the Rio de Janeiro show, such as Anna Luiza Rothier, Chicô Gouvêa, Gisele Taranto and Lia Siqueira, will be present. , Luiz Fernando Grabowsky, Mário Santos, Maurício Nóbrega, Paola Ribeiro among others will make changes to the space, always prioritizing cross ventilation, through the house's enormous windows and taking into account all established safety standards.
“This is the first time we will hold an edition in the middle of summer, perfect for illustrating the laid-back and relaxed lifestyle of Rio residents,” says Patrícia Mayer, one of the managing partners.
The history of the property begins at the height of Brazilian coffee growing in Rio de Janeiro in the 19th century. The first building on the site was built by the Faro family, important coffee growers of the Empire, to be the headquarters of Fazenda da Floresta. With the Portuguese court already living there, In Brazil, the place was the scene of the first meetings between D. Pedro I and the Marquesa de Santos. Years later, it was the residence of the doctor and public health expert Oswaldo Cruz. Purchased by Jorge Brando a century after its construction, the 2,500 m² mansion was renovated in the 1950s to meet the couple's needs.
Considered one of the most beautiful houses in Rio, during the mythical golden years it was the setting for parties with important figures from Rio society, national and foreign artists, politicians – such as President Juscelino Kubitschek – and foreign heads of state visiting the city.
