CASACOR Bahia 2024 is the stage for a unique celebration of black cultural heritage and Brazilian music through the innovative vision of architect João Gabriel . With the " O Canto de Gil " environment, he invites the public on a journey that mixes history, art and spirituality, paying homage to one of Brazil's greatest cultural icons, Gilberto Gil. Inspired by the song “Baba Alapalá,” the space captures generations and connects visitors with their ancient past, represented by clay . “Gilberto Gil’s ancestry and his music are the central theme of this space at CASACOR Bahia 2024. Black history was interrupted when people were enslaved, taken from their lands, and had their names changed. So how can we talk about the future without knowing the past? Looking at Gilberto Gil is seeing a reference to roots and, from there, building a future,” explains the architect. (Gabriela Daltro/CASACOR)
Upon entering the space, visitors are immediately welcomed by the earthy tones that decorate the space and narrate a rich and resilient heritage. Every detail, from the sculptures to the Brazilian handicrafts , evokes this primordial material, symbolizing creation and connection with the earth. (Gabriela Daltro/CASACOR)
The entrance hall features an image of Gilberto Gil dressed as an ancestor, next to a tree that symbolizes his deep family roots . This space is not only a tribute, but an immersion in the black culture of Bahia. Excerpts of Gil's songs are scattered throughout the space, and the trilogy of albums "Refazenda", "Refavela" and "Realce" are displayed in frames, composing a visual tribute to his work .
