In the hectic routine of the city, finding a refuge that reconnects us with the land and our deepest memories is a privilege. Casa Raízes do Cerrado , designed by architect Natália Lemos for CASACOR Rio 2024 , is an invitation to slow down and revisit our roots. With 178 m², the decoration evokes the simplicity and strength of the Minas Gerais cerrado, transforming ancestry into architecture and landscaping.

Upon entering the space, visitors are welcomed by the earthy tones that embrace every corner, reminiscent of the red soil and the landscapes of the cerrado . The biriba ceiling , a tribute to artisanal techniques, and the clay wood stove transport us to our grandmothers' kitchens, where the heat of the fire was synonymous with affection and shared stories. The rusticity of the wood and the clay tiles on the floor are details that convey the essence of the biome, while works by artists from Minas Gerais bring local culture to life.

"As an architect and daughter of this land, this project is a personal tribute . I grew up in the Cerrado, and Casa Raízes do Cerrado reflects this connection, inviting everyone to rediscover their own origins", shares Natália Lemos.
The external space, called Varanda Raízes , was designed by Maira Duarte and Kaio Duarte , from Horto Girassol , and is a harmonious extension of the internal concept. Divided into resting, dining and socializing areas , the balcony has a garden with an arid aesthetic, full of typical species of the cerrado, such as Porto Seguro bromeliad, mango jasmine and seyal acacia. "The seyal acacia has a curious history: introduced to Brazil by Burle Marx , it is a tree with a reddish trunk that reflects the unique beauty of the biome", explains Maira Duarte.

With handcrafted vases, biriba dividers and jute curtains that filter natural light, the balcony is an oasis of simplicity and welcome. Every detail celebrates the wisdom and resilience of the cerrado, rescuing memories and inspiring a more conscious and integrated future . At Casa Raízes do Cerrado , architecture and landscaping come together to create more than a space — a sensorial and emotional experience that honors the land and the stories that shape us.
