“My raft will go out to sea, I will work, my dear”. There is a lot in common between Suíte do Pescador, by Dorival Caymmi, and
Casa Nica , a space by Ramiro Mendes for
Janelas CASACOR Ceará Edition. (Esdras Guimarães/CASACOR)
The entire setting was based on fishermen's houses, so you can find references in every corner, such as the fishing net in the background, wooden oars, tree trunk cladding and an iconic straw hat. The raft even appears as a central point. in both, but in the project it comes in the form of the Jangada armchair, an iconic design from the 1960s by Jean Gillon.
Reinterpreting craftsmanship
(Esdras Guimarães/CASACOR)
Ramiro reinterprets these rustic elements to create a modern dining room, designed for a chef who appreciates his roots and wants to entertain friends at home. The dominant presence of local crafts is worth highlighting.

Gourds, plates, vases and other household utensils fill the shelves. If you look closely, you can also find them on the table, whose legs are made of stacked bowls. The chairs, in turn, although contemporary, have the detail of lattice on the backrest, a reinterpretation of traditional decorations.
A final reference and tribute
The name “Nica” is a tribute to the Executive Director of the
CASACOR Ceará franchise. Nica is the younger sister of director Neuma Figueiredo and also the name of the craft store that the family opened in 1977. The brand’s success and national recognition culminated in the invitation to lead the Ceará show.
