A 43-year-old couple, with three children, bought this 683 m² house, in Leblon (south zone of Rio de Janeiro), which already had a very beautiful base. Then, they called on architect Natália Lemos to create a home with cozy, spacious environments, free spaces and generous circulation.

“This is a renovation project, with new decoration, without major structural interventions. We only removed one wall of the room to enlarge it and increased the same floor of the room towards the old balcony. We also created a new gourmet area in light tones”, describes the architect.

“The wooden slide resting on the stairs, for example, already existed in the house and was maintained. The kids love it,” he adds.

Finally, the house was “flooded” with works of art from the family collection, including paintings by Portinari, Di Cavalcanti, Cicero Dias and a beautiful collection by Burle Marx, inherited from the owner's father (Matti Koponen), who was a collector of art.

Overall, the home has a neutral foundation. The architect changed the color of the facade and the external area, which was dark green, to a light shade of gray, as the idea was to have a light and illuminated house. The floor is entirely sawn Icaraí Yellow Granite.

“This neutral base allowed us to choose some points of color, such as the entrance door, which was painted in a strong shade of green, thus becoming a prominent element in the project”, explains Natália. In the living room, she opted for neutral furniture, with a timeless design, and chose a raw sisal rug to highlight the works of art even more.

The children's rooms gained color on the walls, through personalized paintings made by Giuliana Favero, and in the bedding. In the couple's bedroom, green appears on the headboard and the rest was made up of neutral tones, such as the curtains and linen bedding.
