Architecture is a powerful mechanism for recognizing trends that have passed, those that will come, and the paths that our society has taken over the years. And, among these changes, generations have been marked and created affective memories about each space where their stories have lived. In this context, the small pieces and large pieces are part of the memories of many people who walked on these floors covered in ceramic fragments . (Salvador Cordaro/CASACOR)
Sol :.ar, an environment created and designed by the Plantar Ideias office , led by architects Felipe Stracci and Luciana Pitombo , reveals a square in the middle of CASACOR São Paulo 2022 , where the small and large pieces steal the show in the décor . “ When we discovered the Conjunto Nacional space, we fell in love with the history and the possibilities of bringing a concept that would create a more cozy, tropical and light living space ,” explains Felipe. “ We looked for materials that would bring these characteristics and sensations , and ceramic flooring fit perfectly into this concept ”, adds the architect. Regarding the proposal for the environment, which is a source of inspiration for outdoor projects
, the style was more than essential. “ Since we are in a closed and covered environment, we looked for a more rustic and organic covering . The maxi-caco meets all these demands of an outdoor environment, in addition to bringing a new interpretation of the caquinho , which is within our emotional references ”, he analyzes. Luciana, bringing a new look to the piece that was present in countless homes in the past. Part of the history of architecture
The roots of these affective references about the caquinhos date back to the end of the 19th century, when the industrialization
boom took place in São Paulo , a process that solidified between the 1920s and 1950s, when ceramic industries were established in the region. (Salvador Cordaro/CASACOR)
With the popularization of production, red-dyed pieces became common among the middle class and their fragments also became popular, since many pieces ended up breaking during production, transportation and handling, which favored the use of the material by workers and their families. Versatility in every fragment
One of the highlights of this coating is its immense versatility and possibility of application in different types of projects. “ This flooring is a wild card, as it works very well with burnt cement and has another great quality: it can be applied in areas with small unevenness and cuts can be made, inserting and combining with other existing floors ”, highlights Felipe. (Salvador Cordaro/CASACOR)
“ Therefore, they show all their versatility , both in form and texture ”, adds the architect who highlights the viability of the shards for application in both indoor and outdoor environments: “ With it, we can add a rustic or contemporary style. Without Without a doubt, it is a classic of Brazilian architecture ”, he adds. Reusing, recycling and saving
The timelessness of the piece is not only due to its importance to the past, but also due to its ability to lead to an increasingly conscious architecture that does not abuse the waste of materials and does not create problems regarding sustainability. (Salvador Cordaro/CASACOR)
After all, it is entirely possible to reuse and repurpose leftovers from construction sites and other flooring to create your own mix of small pieces and large pieces, benefiting the environment and being a functional item for those who like to venture into "DIY" projects (do it yourself). -yourself). With the irregularity of the pieces, it is possible to create mosaics , taking advantage of the variation of tones and the different shapes that the shards can present, letting creativity flow between the pieces to create a very original and personalized covering! “ This is a great proposal and very contemporary and versatile . We just need to make sure that the thickness of the floors is similar, thus ensuring good installation and finishing ”, advises Felipe.
