The exhibition, curated by Daniella Bauer from Rio de Janeiro, brings together tapestries and arazzos inspired by renowned artists and contemporary works.

“Art can be anything as long as the artist says so.” This is a quote from Marcel Duchamp, a French artist who challenged traditional definitions of art with his controversial ready-mades since 1913. This was the inspiration behind the group exhibition Manifesto Tramas das Artes, promoted by By Kamy for the 7th edition of Design Weekend (DW!), from 27/08 to 15/09, in São Paulo.
Curated by Rio de Janeiro psychologist and writer Daniella Bauer, the exhibition brings together pieces by renowned artists such as Niobe Xandó, Gilvan Samico, Di Cavalcanti and Tarsila do Amaral that were transferred to tapestries and arazzos. And by contemporary artists such as Luisa Editore, Mónica Millán and Nicole Tomazi who developed exclusive works for the same medium but with a new and hybrid context.
Daniella masterfully delved into the unique and particular universe of these artistic productions when she stated: “Art is a way of translating and expressing what we understand or not, what we see, feel, touch, smell, hear or intuit, what revolts us, what silences us, what needs to be said. Above all, it is a way of breaking paradigms and establishing something new.”
According to the event's curator, it would be purist to believe that art can simply be, since nothing is devoid of meaning. "That which is apparent is in constant transformation, so it is up to artists to attribute meaning, materialize the idea, give body to that which is ethereal. The contemporary world demands constant transfiguration and an inexhaustible capacity for adaptation. In line with this, By Kamy intends to unite the two arts, establishing a new model that may initially cause discomfort, but will undoubtedly bring changes in accordance with the current times," she explains.
