An apartment that would bring a
sense of peace and lightness , with comfortable spaces, without excesses. This was the request of the ophthalmologist to the architect
Ana Lívia Werdine , from the
AW Arquitetura office and
CASACOR Minas Gerais team, for her home, a
250 m² apartment in Belo Horizonte (MG). “This is the third project we have done for this client. We also renovated her old residence and medical clinic”, says Livia.
“We kept some of the apartment’s original elements, such as the
wooden flooring in the private area and the
granite on the floor of the living room and wet areas . We also refurbished some of the existing furniture and developed new ones,” says the architect. The
kitchen , utility area and balcony were the areas that underwent the least changes. The living
rooms , private living area, bedrooms, bathrooms and guest bathroom all received
new lighting design .
Among the main changes to the property's layout, Ana Livia says that she integrated two bedrooms to increase both the bedroom and the bathroom in the resident's suite, which now also has a closet. As a result, the apartment, which previously had four bedrooms, now has three larger bedrooms, two of which are suites.
At the client’s request, the word “
lightness ” permeated the concept of the entire project. To achieve this, the office created
minimalist environments, with fluid layouts and some intentionally empty spaces. “Our intention was to create a peaceful and calm place for the client to recharge her batteries, since she works a lot and travels a lot, both to give lectures and participate in conferences and for leisure,” says the professional.
The decor, which follows a
minimalist contemporary style , includes all the furniture, carpentry, rugs, curtains and lighting fixtures. Only a few ornaments brought back by the resident from her travels, such as Portuguese china and Chinese pieces, as well as her collection of miniature cats, were used in the new home.
At the entrance to the apartment,
the closet with slatted doors serves as a cloakroom, with space inside to hang coats on the top and store shoes on the bottom. The entire wall next to the furniture was covered with a
large white tensioned screen, with lighting behind it, to create a modern, different and contemporary atmosphere. On the opposite wall, the Milan mirror by Jader Almeida steals the show.
In the master suite, the use of carpet was decisive in making the space more cozy, in addition to creating (without breaking anything) a visual unity on the floor of the two bedrooms that were integrated in the renovation. Another highlight is the Luci bed, designed by
Zanini de Zanine , and the Cuca armchair with stool, by
Zanine Caldas .
In the closet, the pendant light was a gift from the client's son, while the Licce rocking chair, designed by Jader Almeida, was ordered with a black metal frame and caramel sole leather seat to become a standout piece in the predominantly white space.
In the bathroom, the countertops are made of nanoglass, the mirror has dressing room-style front lighting and the walls and floor are covered with porcelain tiles in the Carrara marble pattern.
