Painting studio in Rio de Janeiro gets décor that looks like grandma's house

Signed by architect Bianca da Hora, from the cast of CASACOR Rio de Janeiro, the painting studio Papel A Quadro, owned by Carlane de Moraes, is located in Jardim Botânico (RJ) in a space that brings together various creative studios. A lawyer by training, Carlane decided to change her career path to dedicate herself fully to art, especially watercolor, a technique that combines with delicate embroidery, resulting in works that evoke tactile sensations and evoke affective memories from a soft and nostalgic palette.

"The project arises from this transition, which was much more than a professional change — it was a rediscovery of identity. We sought references in the client's roots to create a projects that reflected her essence," explains the architect. In addition to serving as a creative refuge for the artist, the studio also hosts watercolor and porcelain painting classes.

The atmosphere of the space, which also includes a restroom, resembles a studio with the feel of a grandma's house, cozy and full of stories. Family furniture and curated objects blend with Carlane's artworks. Among the repurposed pieces are golden metal chandeliers, with leaf and flower designs, inherited from her grandmother, who lived in Recife and brought them from Italy, as well as antique jacaranda furniture from Manaus, such as the shelf — now painted mint green with a striped background — and the carved side table.

In contrast, the new elements were designed to dialogue with this collection. Highlighting the floor-to-ceiling shelf, created by the architect and executed in custom carpentry, made of natural freijó, with a hollow background that reveals the masonry bricks — a feature that also appears on the wall that delineates the coffee corner. "The handles were painted by the client herself, reinforcing the authorship of the projects," points out the architect.

The Carioca chairs, by designer Alexandre Kasper, complete the collective table area for ten places, used for both artistic production and classes. The studio also features a restroom and vinyl flooring with a wood-like pattern, a practical solution that maintains the cozy atmosphere.
