When they moved to São Paulo, the childless couple from Rio de Janeiro bought this old
180 m² apartment in Brooklin, with the intention of completely renovating it. The new owners then commissioned architects
Carolina Lerner, Gabriella Mello Alves and Sabina Kalaoun from
Studio Lak Arquitetura to design the project, including decorating all the rooms. “Overall, the clients asked for a
cozy and vibrant home , with a homey feel, as well as light wood and touches of color in the carpentry and decor,” says Gabriella.

During the
renovation , which lasted 10 months, the
kitchen was enlarged and integrated into the living room using
blue lacquered joinery with sliding doors . As the floor plan was already circular and very well designed, with large spaces, the changes were only occasional.

According to Sabina, the concept of the project was guided by
eclectic design , which comes from the Greek “
eklektikos ” and means “choose the best”. “Our idea was to bring the best of each style through subtle references to
minimalism, shabby chic and industrial ”, says Carolina.

For the kitchen integrated into the living room, the client wanted
shades of blue . To avoid the obvious, the architects used different coverings on the walls, varying not only the size of the pieces but also the colors, between shades of blue, gray and terracotta. The upper cabinets were designed with fluted glass sliding doors.

The light wood (
natural oak ) used in the parquet floor and in the finish of the carpentry on the shelves and panels contrasted with the materiality of the walls, which received a cement texture in a very light tone, resulting in a cozy and casual atmosphere.
