The couple sought a
timeless apartment with neutral, natural elements and touches of color in the decor when they approached the architecture firm
Macro Arquitetos . In addition, they both wanted a spacious, well-integrated apartment design that would take advantage of natural light and be inviting for entertaining friends. A
complete renovation of the
110m² property, located in the Perdizes neighborhood of São Paulo, was therefore carried out.
Initially, the apartment had three bedrooms, but after the renovation,
one of the bedrooms was integrated into the living room and the
layout of the kitchen, service area and bathroom in the suite was revised. The new layout
prioritized the social area , considering several possible uses for the same space. The entire plumbing, electrical, window frames and coverings infrastructure was also revised.
The integrated kitchen, for example, created a
closer use of the dining room and the living area, connected via the living room. The position of the existing kitchen was inverted with the service area, while the service bathroom was incorporated into the suite area. A
workbench was also integrated into the living room area to support the home office.
Another highlight was the
lighting , both natural and artificial. For example, the cabinet that divides the dining room has a
glass top that allows natural light to enter the rooms and, at night, an LED strip creates an interesting indirect light scene with the glass. Another example is the closure between the living room and the kitchen, made by a
metalwork door with wired glass that allows the space to be sealed without losing the entrance of natural light.
For the finishing touches, the clients wanted the apartment to have a neutral base, leaning towards gray, with
natural elements such as concrete, wood and metalwork. Within this idea, the existing structure was explored by the architect through the
exposed concrete beams and pillars . The color palette, materials and textures were well worked to balance the tones so that the environment did not feel cold.
The
American oak joinery has taken on an important function: it divides the dining room, the service area and the kitchen, providing support for these three areas. In the dining room, a niche was designed to support a sideboard and a
lower storage space to serve as a
buffet . On the side of the kitchen, a niche for a microwave, coffee maker and cabinets makes everything more functional.
The architectural and design line follows the same concept in the bedrooms, combining gray, white and wood.
The beams and the existing structure also appear , standing out in strategic points on the walls. Contrasting with the contemporary and urban air, the
wood brings warmth and well-being necessary for the bedroom.
For the bathroom, the residents also chose to follow the light color palette and use
American oak , adding shades of black to the floor, beams and details, such as the oval mirror. The colors chosen further enhance the natural light that the room receives. Check out the project photos in the gallery below!
