This
90 m² apartment in the heart of Ipanema (RJ) is the vacation home of a family from Brasília who loves the capital of Rio de Janeiro. The project was designed by architects Camila Simbalista and Paula Wetzel, from the
Studio 021 Arquitetura office, part of
CASACOR Rio de Janeiro .
Three points were essential in the project:
integration of the social area with the kitchen to expand the living spaces, practicality in choosing coverings and furniture, as well as a palette of neutral and light tones, with touches of custom color. “Originally, the kitchen and living room were separate. As it is a compact property, used as a living space during the holidays and to receive friends and family, we chose to integrate the spaces, creating a spacious living room, with more fluid and functional circulation”, says Camila.
“This integration also made it possible to eliminate the dining table and use the new kitchen counter for this function,” adds partner Paula.
The architects also painted one of the kitchen walls with modernist-inspired tiles, in reference to the work of Athos Bulcão – a Rio de Janeiro native who became known mainly for his tile panels with geometric-abstract elements, with some of his most important works located in Brasília, such as on the walls of the National Congress, the Igrejinha Nossa Senhora de Fátima and the Juscelino Kubitschek Airport. “A RIO/BSB air bridge that our clients know very well,” concludes Camila.
