95 m² apartment ready in three months to welcome the family's baby

The 95 m² apartment already belonged to the family, but was available for rent. After finding out they were expecting their first child, the residents, a young couple in their 30s, decided to renovate the property to live together and welcome the baby with more space and comfort. To achieve this, architects Diego Raposo and Manuela Simas, from the Diego Raposo + Arquitetos office, came on board and were responsible for the general renovation of all the rooms. “The clients asked to enlarge the living room, with the possibility of accommodating guests to sleep , since Luciana’s family is from Peru”, says Raposo. “They also wanted more light and air circulation throughout the apartment, plenty of storage space and a larger bathroom for themselves, with more natural light,” he adds. Among the main changes to the property's layout, the architects opened up a bedroom to the living room and transformed the space into a home office, which can also be used to accommodate guests thanks to the installation of an island sofa with the dimensions of a double bed and sliding doors, which go from floor to ceiling.

With a minimalist contemporary style, the decor is completely new. The office opted for natural materials, used the color white to increase the brightness inside the house and invested in well-designed joinery to create storage spaces. Because the apartment is small, the office also used few pieces of furniture, prioritizing low-profile pieces to create a more fluid layout and a calm, light and airy atmosphere. “Our furniture selection usually includes the big names in design Brazilian. Since this is a young couple starting their life together, we left the walls free so that they can fill them with pieces of art throughout their lives”, explains Raposo. Another solution to save space was to create a recess in the living room wall (covered with wood) to embed the TV and thus eliminate the need for a rack, leaving circulation freer. “Our biggest challenge in this project was the very short deadline for the renovation. As the baby was about to be born, the parents wanted to leave the maternity ward and go straight to the apartment. As a result, we completed the entire project in just three months,” concludes architect Diego Raposo.
