The couple in their 40s were willing to renovate their entire 115 m² apartment in Jardim Botânico, in Rio de Janeiro, to enlarge the kitchen and integrate it into the living room, a solution that would allow them to cook for friends more comfortably. Architect
Natália Lemos then eliminated a
bedroom and optimized the social area of the property as much as possible.
The neutral base with a strong presence of wood (the joinery being made from oak and the floor from tauari) made the spaces more cozy. In the social area, the color appears punctually in the green bookcase, which goes from floor to ceiling, and in the dry pink ottoman.
“In the decoration, practically everything is new. Only the chairs and the pendant lamp in the dining room and the side table next to the sofa were used from the clients’ collection”, reveals Natália.
Next to the window, the exposed raw concrete pillar and the concrete bench along the entire length of the TV wall, covered with white brick, brought a more modern and relaxed air to the apartment.
“This bench can also be used as a rack or space to store books”, adds the architect. Another highlight in the room are the rotating sunshades made in carpentry, which allow you to integrate or isolate the room and access to the intimate area.
In the contemporary style kitchen, the graphite tone predominates, present in the porcelain floor, the synthetic stone countertop and the oven tower. The rest of the cabinets have lower melamine doors in an oak pattern and upper glass doors with a checkered texture.
The walls were covered with retro ceramics and the partition that separates the kitchen from the service area has black metalon profiles with sandblasted glass so as not to block the passage of natural light.
