Juliana Cascaes - Living Alma Brasileira Banco BRB. The Brazilian essence is exalted in various ways in the projects of 126 m² created by Juliana Cascaes. The living room is one of the most symbolic projects of any house: it is the space where we welcome friends, family, and often spend moments of rest. More than just a simple room, it is the calling card of the home, reflecting the personality of the inhabitants and conveying feelings of well-being. Creating a cozy and welcoming living room requires attention to elements such as lighting, furniture arrangement, color selection, and integration of personal objects. When well planned, this project can invite companionship, dialogue, and relaxation, becoming the favorite meeting spot in the house.

Planning and arrangement of furniture

The first step for a functional living room is to think about circulation. A good arrangement of furniture ensures that everyone can move without obstacles and participate in conversations comfortably. Sofas and armchairs should be positioned to create a layout that encourages interaction, such as a “U” or “L” shape, leaving a central point— which can be a coffee table— as a visual focus. Additionally, it is important to match the size of the furniture to the dimensions of the project. In smaller projects, opting for multifunctional pieces, such as ottomans that serve as extra seating, helps maintain the project practical and organized without compromising circulation.

The importance of lighting

The lighting is crucial for the atmosphere of the living room. Prefer indirect and warm lights that provide a feeling of coziness. Chandeliers, floor lamps, and wall sconces are great allies for distributing light softly and creating layers of lighting, avoiding excessive shadows. Whenever possible, enhance natural light: light curtains made of materials like linen or voile allow filtered light to enter, making the project more pleasant during the day and helping to save electricity.

Choice of colors and materials

Colors have a strong impact on the perception of space. Neutral tones, such as beige, gray, and off-white, help convey tranquility and are excellent bases for decoration. To add more life and personality, invest in colorful accents in cushions, throws, and paintings. Natural materials, such as wood, straw, and fibers, create a warm and inviting atmosphere, in addition to connecting with the trend of biophilia. Rugs with pleasant textures also help define the project and make the flooring more comfortable.

Details that bring personality

A welcoming living room should reflect the identity of its inhabitants. Photos, travel mementos, books, and handmade objects are great resources for telling stories and sparking conversations. Pictures or an art gallery on the wall highlight the preferences of the residents and make the project feel more unique. Plants are also great for bringing life to the project. Species such as zamioculca, sword of saint george, and rapis are easy to care for and help purify the air, in addition to adding a touch of green to the decoration.

Comfort is a priority

Finally, a living room is only truly welcoming if it is comfortable. Invest in quality upholstery, with fabrics pleasant to the touch, and add cushions of different sizes for support. Throws strategically placed on sofas or armchairs invite relaxation. Another important point is acoustic control: thicker curtains, rugs, and cushions help absorb sound, creating a quieter and more pleasant space for conversations and moments of rest.
