In celebration of 471 years of São Paulo, different museums are preparing special programs with free admission to bring reflections on the city's history and culture, whether with audiovisual works, exhibitions, concerts, guided tours or even reading groups. Here are some of the options for these centers that will be exploring the richness of São Paulo this Saturday, January 25: Museu Afro Brasil Emanoel Araujo

On January 24 and 25, the Museu Afro Brasil Emanoel Araujo will host an unprecedented video projection on its façade by Coletivo Coletores, a duo formed by Flávio Camargo and Toni Baptiste. The work entitled AKOMA is a visual narrative that brings together Afro-Latin histories and territories, and will be supported by the architecture of the museum's headquarters. The work explores narratives of personalities and events that symbolize resistance and the struggle for memory and human rights. There will be five screenings a day, each lasting 15 minutes, from 7.30pm to 9.30pm.

With free admission on January 25 and 26, MASP will promote the Prelude event, which will take place in the Pietro Maria Bardi Building. It will be the first time that the museum has opened the doors of the new building to the public before the official opening. Among the highlights of the weekend's attractions is an unprecedented, dramatized reading of letters written by Lina Bo Bardi - the architect who designed the museum's original building - to Pietro Maria Bardi, her husband and MASP's first artistic director. There will be concerts by Xênia França and the group Bixiga 70, who will perform with singer-songwriter Tássia Reis. The musical agenda also includes the Heliópolis Choir, which will perform popular and classical compositions, and Studio3 Cia de Dança and dancer and choreographer Morena Nascimento, who will give dance performances. The children's program will feature activities that stimulate body movement, with dances and music by the Barbatuques group and Cris Gouveia - accompanied by musicians Marcellus Meirelles and Roberta Kelly - as well as recreational activities, such as a circus intervention with balloons by Circo Show. The Lina Bo Bardi Building will also be part of the celebration with the opening of the shutters of the 2nd Floor Gallery at dusk, giving the public a panoramic view of Avenida Paulista and downtown São Paulo. To this end, the building's opening hours will be extended until 9pm. At Casa das Rosas, the public is invited to interact and imagine other ways of living in the city of São Paulo. On the 25th, the Educational Action Center will hold the thematic visit "Paulista Avenue and Urban Transformations", promoting a conversation about the relationship between Casa das Rosas and its territory and the city's recent history, as well as discussing the architectural and social changes that have taken place between the end of the 19th century and the present day on Avenida Paulista. For the occasion, 20 places will be available for in-person participation on a first-come, first-served basis with a password. Address: Av. Also in celebration of São Paulo's anniversary, the Pinacoteca will have a guided tour "São Paulo and the collection", with curator Yuri Quevedo, who will establish relationships between the centenary building on Pina Luz and the city. The tour will discuss the strategies that artists from different contexts have used to imagine and represent the territory, the landscape and the city. In addition, the museum's education department runs an artistic experimentation workshop and offers games related to the works in the collection. The master viola players offer the public an encounter with the magic of the viola, in a deep dive into the roots and creativity of Brazilian music based on the rich cosmology of the caipira. To enrich the musical dialog, the masters share their guitars with the delicacy of Ester Alves' flute. The artist's repertoire includes songs by great singers and composers such as Paulo Vanzolini, Tom Zé, Rita Lee, Maria Rita and Adoniran Barbosa. The performance, which will feature a Libras interpreter, will also include songs by Luiz Gonzaga, paying homage to the travelers who left the Northeast and put down roots in São Paulo. The Museu de Arte Sacra de São Paulo, in partnership with Sociarte (Sociedade dos Amigos da Arte de São Paulo), opens the exhibition "Memorabilia - Collecting Memories of São Paulo"on January 25. The exhibition will celebrate the history and culture of the city of São Paulo, presenting pieces that awaken memories and connect the São Paulo community to its roots. The exhibition, which runs until March 9, brings together iconographies depicting landscapes, everyday scenes and monuments, as well as highlighting artistic plasticity in paintings, sculptures and commemorative objects.
