Louvre presents first fashion exhibition in its history
The Louvre, the most important art museum in the world, is hosting its first fashion exhibition titled “Louvre Couture, Art and Fashion: Manifesto Pieces”. The exhibition brings together haute couture creations from German designer Karl Lagerfeld (1933-2019) during his time at Chanel, showcasing the relationship between art and fashion from the 1960s to the present. [Exhibition at the Louvre Running until July 21, the exhibition features 45 designers, including Balenciaga, Chanel, Versace, and Yves Saint Laurent, and includes 65 garments and 30 accessories displayed amid the works of the Louvre. The creations are spread across a space of 9,000 m², directly interacting with the main works from the Louvre's decorative arts collection: tapestries, ceramics, portraits, and sculptures from the Byzantine Empire to 19th century France, as well as the layout of the Louvre galleries. [Exhibition at the Louvre Olivier Gabet, the museum's director of art objects and curator of the exhibition, states that the personal relationship between designers and the Louvre was the starting point for realizing the exhibition.
