This
apartment of
209 m² on Leblon beach (RJ) seemed frozen in time: the projects were very compartmentalized, with an entrance hall, a hall in the toilet... A layout very much in the style of the 1970s, never updated. Until it was purchased by a couple with two young daughters who decided to promote a total renovation and called in architects
Izabela Lessa and Fernanda Zanetta, from the
LessaZanetta office and cast of
CASACOR Rio de Janeiro, for the renovation.

"We changed everything: finishes, frames and installations to meet the family that decided to move to a larger space where they could live and host friends with more comfort. But we also created solutions that, at the same time, integrate all the projects and ensure the privacy and individuality of the residents," explains Fernanda.

For this, it was necessary to make practically a revolution in the layout. Especially in the intimate area, where the three
original rooms were transformed into three suites with closets – which was only possible with the reduction of the
kitchen.

The architects also managed to create a
study and work area in the master suite, with a sea view. (Juliano Colodeti/Divulgação)
In the social area, all the walls were knocked down creating a spacious area with integrated
living and dining rooms that allow the family to host friends, watch movies together or simply meet for a exchange of ideas.

The removal of the hall allowed for the creation of a support furniture in the living room with a china cabinet, wine cellar and bar, and a mirrored sliding door that hides the toilet. The
balcony, facing the sea, gained more prominence and a gourmet area with a support counter and refrigerator.

The color palette is very soft with tones that remind of the beach: the sand is in the travertine marble floor – also used on the dining room counter –; the white, on the walls; the blue appears in the painting by
René Machado in the dining room; and the green, in the work of
José Bechara.

With contemporary and modern pieces signed by designers from different eras such as
Sérgio Rodrigues, Jorge Zalszupin and Jader Almeida, the decor is minimalist and timeless.

Another important change was the lighting designed by
Maneco Quinderé, who created various scenes for the projects: party, work, movie. For each moment, a light intensity. "The priority was to bring comfort to the family. But without giving up style," defines Izabela.
