The move from Niterói to Ipanema inspired this light, functional project with emotional resonance. Located in the heart of the neighborhood, the apartment of 160 m² marks the beginning of a new phase for a young couple (and their little dog, Julie) who were seeking a more practical routine connected to day-to-day work.

The choice of the property came after visiting several apartments until this one, thanks to its location and potential, won the residents over. The interior design project, designed by architect Fernanda Medeiros (part of the CASACOR Rio de Janeiro roster), was developed in just two months and executed over six months of construction and millwork, resulting in a functional, emotive home full of identity.

“The project was born from a very fluid relationship with the clients, who fully trusted the decisions and allowed us to design tailored solutions for each space,” says Fernanda.

One of the main challenges appeared right at the entrance: the narrow entry hall. To gain depth and improve circulation, the architect replaced the masonry with drywall, shifting the wall by a few centimeters. The project was visually expanded with a wall entirely clad in mirror, while the other received a millwork panel with a concealed access door, ensuring aesthetic unity and discretion.

In the social area, the kitchen was not integrated into the living room, but gained a large sliding door recessed into a panel, allowing flexibility in how the space is used. In the living room, every inch was carefully utilized with the creation of a continuous millwork bench along the window, which connects to the TV unit and creates a cozy space for everyday life. “We conceived the living room as a versatile, comfortable project, with solutions that favor everyday use, without excess,” the architect explains.

With three bedrooms, the apartment includes a suite, a home office, and a guest room, all connected by a common millwork language that combines natural freijó veneer and off-white lacquer. This choice ensures visual unity and reinforces a sense of coziness.

Without an original powder room, the social bathroom was designed to serve that function as well. The striped porcelain tile, reminiscent of wallpaper, allows the space to function as a powder room without exposing the walls to moisture, uniting aesthetics and practicality.

The project's materiality favors natural materials, such as wood and natural-fiber textiles, along with a soft palette of blue and green tones, in tune with the Carioca surroundings. “Photographs of Niterói and Ipanema Beach help build, in the living room, an emotional narrative that connects the memory of the former city to the residents’ new stage of life", says Fernanda.
