Weekend retreat in São Paulo gets industrial-style décor

Designed by architect and urban planner Rodra Cunha, this apartment of 75 m² was made to be the weekend retreat in São Paulo for an architect from Brasília: the owner sought a space that broke with the typical impersonality of a temporary residence, ensuring the genuine feeling of being at home.

The starting point was a profound structural renovation. As it is an old property, all electrical and hydraulic infrastructure was renewed to support the new configuration. The original layout, previously compartmentalized, gave way to a fluid layout: the living room was fully integrated with the kitchen and the former service bedroom was converted into a modern office.

The original service bathroom gained a new function, transforming into an elegant lavabo for the social areas.

The aesthetic conception of the project embraces industrial identity as a guide. Instead of hiding the original structure, the architect opted to strip the pillars and keep the beams exposed, creating an interesting contrast with the predominantly white base of the walls. The rawness of the concrete is softened by a meticulous curation of signed Brazilian furniture, which brings warmth, history, and personality to the projects.

The integration not only visually enlarged the area but also prioritized hospitality. The living room now has a breath that allows hosting friends and family with fluidity and comfort.
