Located in São Conrado, Rio de Janeiro, this apartment with a linear layout of 250 sqm underwent a radical transformation under the careful eye of architects Roberta Moura and Paula Faria, from the Roberta Moura + Paula Faria Arquitetura office (and part of the CASACOR Rio de Janeiro lineup).

Inhabited for years by a couple with two teenage daughters, the property called for a comprehensive renovation. And, to streamline the workflow of the remodel, the residents fully vacated the space to enable a two-year project that, although it kept the original floor plan intact, completely redefined the dynamics and aesthetics of the home.

The major guiding thread of the project was the owners' impressive art collection, which featured significant pieces such as works by Vik Muniz and a sculpture by Franz Krajcberg. To allow the art to take its rightful spotlight, the architects opted for a neutral and timeless palette, with off-white walls and custom-built cabinetry crafted in American oak.

In the social area, the former balcony was fully integrated into the living room, and the original stuccoed travertine marble floor was restored and extended, enhancing the sense of fluidity. In the private wing and entrance hall, the strip wood flooring was revitalized with a new application of polyurethane finish.

Integration is the keyword of the new social area, which now connects living, dining, TV and home office in a fluid and welcoming way. The central element of this arrangement is an imposing floor-to-ceiling bookshelf, organizing the flow without creating rigid visual barriers.

At the windows, sliding mashrabiya panels elegantly filter the afternoon sun, creating a subtle interplay of light and shadow. The furniture is an ode to signature design, bringing together modernist and contemporary icons by masters such as Jorge Zalszupin, Sergio Rodrigues, Claudia Moreira Salles, Jader Almeida, Arthur Casas and Geraldo de Barros.

The transition and service areas, on the other hand, received generous doses of boldness and color. The intimate hall was transformed into an enveloping box through continuous painting in a blue tone. The powder room surprises by dressing walls and ceiling with a striking tropical wallpaper brought from London.

The kitchen with integrated breakfast nook — the family's gathering point for quick meals — combines blue and wood cabinets, gray and white checkered floor, red pendant light, and floral wallpaper.
