Winter garden with checkered floor is the highlight of this apartment in Rio

When the elderly couple decided to acquire a permanent home in Rio de Janeiro, the choice was for a 220 m2 apartment in Posto 6, in Copacabana, which had a charm typical of properties from the 1960s: moldings, boiseries , a winter garden with checkered marble flooring and peroba do campo flooring in excellent condition. When invited to carry out the renovation, architect Fernanda Medeiros – from the CASACOR Rio de Janeiro cast – maintained the original features, taking advantage of them to give even more charm to the property's decor. “It’s a family that loves Rio and their biggest wish was for the apartment to have a very Rio feel,” says Fernanda. The architect opted for a more contemporary design with neutral tones on the walls and almost all the furniture, bringing colors into objects, works of art and part of the carpentry.

The kitchen , for example, took on a very soft off-white tone. The space, in fact, was fully integrated into the dining room, which gained a large table to favor family meals and socializing with guests during the Rio seasons. The use of freijó helped to warm up the spaces and photographs of Rio became prominent on the walls of practically every room. The apartment had its original three bedrooms maintained, but gained two new bathrooms , as the idea is to be able to welcome family and friends there. Thus, in addition to the couple's master suite, the apartment now has two guest bedrooms: one with a queen size bed; and another with two single beds for the grandchildren, but which can also be used as a double bed, if applicable. The home office was another request from the client so that he could work and participate in online meetings while in the city. “With so much convenience, I think these seasons will get longer and longer”, jokes Fernanda.
